Gergis W. William is a research assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU). His research focus is in the area of computer simulation, analysis and design of highway bridges and pavements. In the past several years, he participated in several large scale projects funded by West Virginia Division of Highways, MAUTC, and FHWA including West Virginia Smart Road, Instrumentation of Evansville Bridge and Star City Bridge in West Virginia. His work involved an extensive use of nonlinear 3D Finite Element simulation as well as instrumentations. He published over 30 research papers in professional journals and refereed conference proceedings as well as several technical reports. After completing his Ph.D. in 2003, he was honored by the US Department of Transportation as the Outstanding Mid Atlantic Universities Transportation Center (MAUTC) student of the year 2003.

Dr. William also has industrial experience and worked as a structural design engineer at the Consultative Bureau of Civil Constructions Alexandria, Egypt. During his employment, he took charge of several design projects which included design of over 50 steel and concrete bridges, different types of hydraulic structures (Barrages, Siphons, Aqueducts, and pipelines), roads, three high-rise buildings, and three steel structures. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio and a member of several professional societies and national committees.
