Undergraduate Curriculum
Civil engineers are expected to assume roles as problem solvers, decision-makers and technical leaders. The Civil Engineering curriculum emphasizes professionalism and ethics through practical examples of the application of theoretical course work and the fundamentals of civil engineering in both classroom and laboratory work.
Students complete courses in liberal studies, science, general engineering science, and civil engineering. To ensure that graduates of the program are educated in all branches of the profession, the program offers students a broad base of knowledge in Civil and Environmental Engineering; at the same time, specialization in one or more of the branches of civil engineering is possible by careful selection of technical electives during the junior and senior years. Learning computer-aided design is included in the curriculum, and design experiences are integrated into regular course work.
Additional opportunities for expanded learning include participation on student design teams that compete at the national level with such projects as environmental design, timber and steel design, and concrete canoe design.
